The Olympic Mountains in Washingtion State seem to loom over Victoria at sunrise. The Olympics cast a significant rain shadow over the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This greatly benefits Victoria and the Gulf Islands, creating summer conditions that are typically sunny and dry. There are at least three different layers of clouds visible in this picture.
You can see fog on the strait at the base of the mountains, cumulus clouds
caused by air rising up the southwestern face of the range and stratus clouds
above it all, part of the larger scale weather system that was passing by at
the time of the picture.
