Stuart Channel lies between Vancouver Island and some of the smaller Gulf Islands, Penelakut, and Thetis Island, with Salt Spring Island at the southern end. This photo was taken on 1 December, 2015 during a crossing of the ferry between Vesuvius on Salt Spring Island and Crofton on Vancouver Island. Particularly smooth looking due to a lack of capillary waves, the surface of the ocean is still gently heaving as small amplitude waves move past. Clouds are reflected as lopsided sky-pools in the undulating surface. The stratus cloud cover is only about 500  metres up as could be determined by looking at nearby peaks. The camera is looking northward. Liberty has been taken with the colour of the image to suggest a cool December tone for this image.
