As a part of my oceanography Honours year at UCT I got to take part in the Marion Island resupply voyage aboard the MV SA Agulhas. Marion Island is a small volcanic South African Island in the South West Indian Sector of the Southern Ocean. It is literally almost the windiest place on the planet  - and the ocean behaves accordingly! We did a two week survey of a cold Antarctic eddy, that I subsequently did my thesis on.
